EYESORE PATROL: We Care

Help us get the word out that eyesores and blight are not acceptable in Macomb County. Eyesores have been a fact of life on state Senator Steve Bieda's watch. The Warren Democrat has let things go by doing nothing, as we illustrate here. Vote on August 5th for a choice that makes sense. Choose Republican Hawke Fracassa (pictured) for state senator. And until then: Do you have an eyesore in your neighborhood? It can be tall grass, a messed up home, broken concrete or a car that should have been put out of its misery. Anything that detracts from the curb appeal of your neighborhood. Send pictures with a short explanation to Fracassa4Senate@gmail.com. Thank you!

While most of Tech Plaza in Warren has been kept up for anchor tenants Old Country Buffet and a Wal-Mart that just reopened, empty storefronts diminish the curb appeal. A part of the plaza's parking lot just north of 12 Mile near the entrance is a mess --- and nobody is doing anything about it. This is one of several parking lots citywide that have been left to deteriorate since Steve Bieda has been the local do-nothing state senator.

This Dumpster next to the Comcast office at Hoover and 13 Mile was not a pretty sight. It was there to process debris from the shuttered Charter gym in the strip mall north of Cousino High School in Warren.

It's such a nice Saturday night, let's put an old couch outside and wait to watch traffic drive by on 12 Mile. This is west of Gail on the north side of 12 Mile for all to see. At least the grass is green, and nicely cut and edged. This is NORTH Warren. The "nice" part of town. Hey … we're trying to keep things looking lovely around here. Where are those blight inspectors in Warren that a Free Press reporter praised for being so good? Zzzzzz … this is proof positive that you can't believe everything you read in the mainstream newspapers.

Here is what Warren looks like on Senator Steve Bieda's watch. This closed car dealership is an ugly mess. The former Key Motor Mall near Dequindre is now a campus of gang graffiti, standing water, busted windows

and overgrown weeds and foliage. Numerous windows are broken out of this shut Isuzu dealership's former service center, giving potential vandals easy access to a building where they could hide and do bad things.

The missing sign all by itself is an eyesore. The weeds growing in the parking lot add to the "curb appeal."

This was a busy Fashion Bug in Warren. The jobs and the store went away without pomp and circumstance on state Senator Steve Bieda's watch, leaving this prime retail space at 12 Mile and Van Dyke unused in this suburb of at least 140,000 people. That's a lot of customers to abandon. Empty space in a shopping mall is blight. Strong leadership with a new state senator can repair this damage.

This messy eyesore is at the corner of Seyburn and the Interstate-696 service drive in Warren. It's in shabby shape, even if someone labels it a starter home. You can see this house is a neighborhood eyesore even if you see it from as far away as across the street a few doors down. It is in bad need of a paint job and other tlc. The weed that's taller than an adult man to the right of the front door is a not-so-subtle way of saying: "Nobody cares about this house." Officials like state Senator Steve Bieda of Warren obviously don't.

This is just plain ugly. An eyesore right in the middle of a neighborhood. Must be a nice view for people in the apartments next door. How'd you like to live next door to this in Warren? Blight like this is what is allowed to happen under the leadership of state Senator Steve Bieda.

The kids haven't figured out this would be an awesome place to skateboard, because of the angles of the cement. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen. When Wayne State is sued for negligence, the defendant can use this picture in court to show nothing was done to correct a dangerous condition. Dangers to kids --- a condition happening on state Senator Steve Bieda's watch. Strong leadership can fix such problems by demanding safety first.

Cracks in the cement are now home to errant weeds at a closed gas station on Van Dyke. Weeds also spill over the back wall for all to see. The building itself looks like it can be put to good use with a little bit of elbow grease. But, for now, this is just another example of unchecked neglect in Warren.

I used to buy gas at this service station in Warren. The people were nice. Then the doors were locked, and there was trash all over the floor and in the windows.

A broken shopping cart from who knows where rests against the closed gas station's backside. Further proof that nobody even pays attention to curb appeal in Warren on the watch of state Senator Steve Bieda.

At one time this was a clean service station bustling with drivers putting gas in their cars. Here you can see the nozzles,

and the attendants, are gone.
